“Improper shutdown during VGA clock setting" Problem

Just recently this problem has surfaced on my PC. The computer will freeze and sometimes even expierence the blue screen of death. But mainly the computer will just crash and display grey lines across the screen. The graphics card i have is a Gainward 7800gt , and i use the software that came with the card. Namely expertool, which feel is the problem itself and is just crashing the computer. I emailed gainward myself and told them the problem , which they suggested was caused by an inadequate power supply (psu). However, i have a 700w coolmaster case so i know this isnt the problem , and have tested another psu.
My view on the problem is that expertool is causing the crashes , due to some software conflict.
However , it is still a possibiity that the graphics card is becoming faulty, and Gainward have asked me to RMA my card which i will do .
I will report back the findings but a solution to anyone needing help with this particular issue is to
1. Uninstall the experttool and use Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the Nvidia drivers and then install the last Nvidia drivers from www.nvidia.com
2. If the problem still persists after the first stage, I would then go onto test another Power Supply (PSU) if possible.
3. If neither of the first two stages have helped, i would then procede to contact Gainward directly and tell them of the specific issue and ask for an RMA. Note , often Gainward will tell you to use the retailer you bought the card from , so try the retailer first .
